UNIPORT POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION FORM AND SCREENING DETAILS 2016/2017 RELEASED – HOW TO APPLY

This is to inform the general public that the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT
postgraduate programmes admission form for
the 2016/2017 academic session is on sale.
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)
invites applications from suitably qualified
candidates for admission into its postgraduate
programmes for the 2016/2017 academic
session.
UNIPORT POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES AND
REQUIREMENTS.
. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARTS, EDUCATION
AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
A. FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
All Humanities PhD Programmes require a
minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale except
English Studies which requires a minimum CGPA
of 4.0 on a 5 point scale. In addition candidates
must score a minimum of 60% in the admission
interview to be found admissible.
1. COMPARATIVE LITERATURE PROGRAMME
M.A. Comparative Literature
PhD Comparative Literature
Requirements for MA Comparative Literature
Programme:
Candidates shall possess at least a Second Class
Honours Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.0
points on a 5 point scale or its equivalent in
Literature from a recognized University.
Graduates in English have to produce evidence
of a minimum of two years (four semesters)
academic exposure to French or another
language of International communication.
African Language
There is a Special African Language requirement
for the Comparative Literature Programme. Any
candidate who is deficient in speaking, reading or
writing an African language will be required to
take an appropriate course in the Department of
Linguistics and Communication Studies and
produce evidence of having passed that course.
Requirements for PhD Comparative Literature
Programme:
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in
Literature or M.A. Degree in other related
discipline in addition to the other Faculty
Requirements.
2. DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND FILM
STUDIES
Master of Arts (MA), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Class Honours Degree in Theatre Arts with a
CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5 point scale or
its equivalent in Theatre Arts from a recognized
University.
Requirements for PhD Theatre Arts
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Theatre
Arts in addition to the other Faculty
Requirements.
3. DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH STUDIES

recognized University or PGD Upper Credit.
Requirements for PhD Foreign Languages and
Literatures
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in Foreign
Languages and Literatures in addition to the
other Faculty Requirements.
5. DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND DIPLOMATIC
STUDIES
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in History & Diplomatic
Studies (PGDHDS)
Qualifications for Admission
To be eligible for admission into Postgraduate
Diploma Programme, a candidate must have a
good Honours degree in the Humanities, Social
Sciences, Education, Law and the Management
Sciences.
(ii) Master of Arts (M.A.) in the following areas:
(a) Diplomacy
(b) Africa History & Development Studies
(c) Niger Delta Studies
(d) Cultural Heritage Management
Qualifications for Admission
To qualify for admission into the M.A Degree
Programmes of the Department, candidates must
possess at least a Second Class Honours Degree
with a CGPA of not less than 3.00 on a 5 point
scale or its equivalent of the University of Port
Harcourt or from any other recognized University
in the relevant subjects.
Except for Archaeology/Cultural Heritage
Management, candidates from non-History
backgrounds will be required to pass through the
Department’s Postgraduate Diploma Programme
in History and Diplomacy before admission into
the MA programmes.
(iii) Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in
the following areas:
1. Diplomacy
2. African History and Development Studies
3. History and Niger Delta Studies
4. Archaeology
5. Cultural Heritage Management
Qualifications for Admission
Candidates who have MA/MSc Degree with a
CGPA of not less than 3.5 on a 5 point scale or
its equivalent in the Humanities and Social
Sciences, especially History, Archaeology,
Anthropology, Religious and Cultural Studies,
Sociology, Economics and International Relations
to qualify for admission into the various Graduate
options in the Department. Except for
Archaeology, candidates from non-History
backgrounds are expected to pass through the
Department’s Postgraduate Diploma Programme
in History and Diplomatic Studies to be admitted
into PhD degree programmes. In addition,
candidates will be required to present a written
proposal on a dissertation topic in their chosen
field, and score a minimum of 60% in pre-
admission oral interview.
6. DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND
COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in

Requirements for MA in Religious and Cultural
Studies:
Admission to the MA programme will be open to
candidates with the B.A. Degree in Religious and
Cultural Studies, Islamic Studies, Theology or
other related disciplines such as Philosophy,
History, Sociology and Anthropology on a CGPA
of 3.0 points on a 5-point scale, from the
University of Port Harcourt or any other
institution recognized by the Senate of the
University of Port Harcourt
Requirements for PhD Religious and Cultural
Studies:
Candidates must have an M.A. Degree in
Religious and Cultural in addition to the other
faculty Requirements.

Requirements for M.Ed Programme
The following categories of candidates may be
admitted on application into the Programme:
(i) Graduates of the University of Port Harcourt
or any other approved University who have
obtained approved Bachelor’s Degree in Adult
Education with at least 3.00 CGPA on a 5 point
scale or its equivalent.
(ii) Candidates who did not major in Adult
Education but obtained at least 2nd
Class Honours Degree or above and with a
minimum CGPA of 3.50 in the
Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Such
candidates would be required to do some
remedial courses as prescribed in the handbook.
15. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN KINETICS AND
HEALTH EDUCATION
M.Ed, Ph.D Regular Programmes on Full-Time
and Part-Time basis. M.Ed Sandwich (Long
Vacation) programme. Both the Regular (Ph.D &
M.Ed) and Sandwich (Long Vacation) M.Ed
Programmes have the following areas:
(A) M.Sc (Ed) Human Kinetics
Areas of Specialization
(a) Physiology of Exercise

Requirements
(i) Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree
in Human Kinetics or Human Kinetics and Health
Education (Integrated Major). Preferably holders
of Second Class Honours degree from a
recognized University with at least a CGPA of
3.00 on a 5 point scale or its equivalent.
(ii) Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Science or Science Education after having
obtained the Nigerian Certificate in Education
(NCE) in Human Kinetics or Human Kinetics and
Health Education (this category of candidates
may be required to take some additional courses
in Human Kinetics and related courses as may
be prescribed by the Department.
(iii) Upper Credit in Postgraduate Diploma in
Education (PGDE) with a CGPA of at least 4.00
C. M.Ed Health Education
Areas of Specialization
(a) Community Health Education
(b) Occupational Health and Safety Education
(c) School Health Education
Requirements
(i) Candidates must possess Second Class
Honours Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00
on a 5 point scale or its equivalent from a
recognized University in Health Education or
Health and Human Kinetics (Integrated Major) or
Human Kinetics and Health Education (Integrated
Major).
(ii) A Degree in Medicine or appropriate Medical
Science in Nursing or Advanced Graduate
Diploma in Health Education (ADHE).
(iii) Candidates with a Second Class Honours
Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in related
discipline after having obtained the Nigerian
Certificate in Education (NCE) in Human Kinetics
or Human Kinetics and Health Education
(Integrated Major). Such candidates may be
required to take additional courses in Human
Kinetics and Health Education as may be
prescribed by the Department.
D. PhD in the following areas:
(i) Sports Management
(ii) Psychology and Sociology of Sports
(iii) Sports Marketing
(iv) Health Education (Community Health)
Candidates must possess either an M.Ed Degree
in Human Kinetics and Health Education or other
relevant Discipline in addition to the other
Faculty Requirements.
16. INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Regular (Full-Time and Part-Time) basis and
sandwich (Long Vacation) programme.
The programme consists of four areas, namely:
(a) Studies in the Theory and Practice of
Education
(b) Specialized Procedure in the Teaching of
Subjects
(c) Supervised Practice in Teaching
(d) Supervised Project
(i) Requirements –
Candidates must possess any of the following
degrees;
(a) BSc, BA, B.Eng, MSc, M.A, MBA, PhD
(without any Teaching Certificate) and their
equivalent from a recognized University.(1st
Degree with a minimum of 3rd class)
(b) HND Upper Credit and its equivalent from
recognized Polytechnics.
(ii) Duration
(a) Full-Time: The Programme will last for a
minimum of 12 calendar months and maximum of
24 calendar months.
C. FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
All Social Sciences PhD Programmes require a
minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 point scale except
Economics and Sociology (Demography and
Population Studies) which requires a minimum
CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale.

21. CLAUDE AKE SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT
(i) Executive Master’s Degree Programme in
Public Administration (MPA)
Requirements for Executive Master’s Degree
Programme in PA.
A candidate for the MPA Programme is expected
to be a graduate of the University of Port
Harcourt or any other approved University with at
least a Second Class Honours Lower Division,
with a CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5 point
scale or 5.0 on a 7 point scale. However,
candidates with Third Class or Pass Degrees may
be considered, provided they have relevant
employment for five (5) years and seven (7)
years, respectively.
DURATION
The Programme is designed to last for twelve
calendar months (12), consisting of two
semesters and field research/report writing and
presentation period.
22. CENTRE FOR ETHNIC AND CONFLICT
STUDIES (CENTECS)
(i) Postgraduate Diploma in Peace and Conflict
Studies
Requirements for PGD in Peace & Conflict
Studies:
To be eligible for admission into the Peace and
Conflict Studies Programme,
candidates must possess a first Degree (B.Sc.,
B.Ed, B.A) from any recognized University.
Preference will be given to candidates who have
Degrees in related Fields of study, and to those
who work in the peace and conflict sector. In
exceptional cases, candidates without first
Degree, but who have attended high professional
institutions like the National War College, NIPSS,
etc .and who have demonstrable practical
experience in peacekeeping operations and other
peace building activities, may be considered for
admission.
DURATION : The Postgraduate Diploma in Peace
and Conflict Studies is designed for 12 months
full time.
II. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF NATURAL, APPLIED
& MEDICAL
SCIENCES
COLLEGE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES
All Science PhD Programmes require a minimum
CGPA of 4.0 on a 5 point scale and thesis score
not lower than 60% (B). All PhD candidates are
expected to attend a pre-admission oral
interview, at which they are REQUIRED to defend
their written proposals.

SCIENCES

Requirements for PGD Plant Science and
Biotechnology:
Candidates must possess at least a Second
Class Lower Degree (22) or a strong Third Class
(3rd) Bachelors’ Degree in Botany/Plant Science,
or any good Honours Degree in Microbiology,
Agriculture, Crop Science, Biochemistry,
Genetics, Biotechnology or related field
(depending on the option of the PGD) from the
University of Port Harcourt or any other
recognized University within or outside Nigeria.
Potential Candidates with HND in relevant fields
deemed suitable by the Department of Plant
Science and Biotechnology’s Graduate Board of
Studies would be considered for the requisite
programmes.
(ii) M.Sc, PhD in the following areas:

Harcourt or any other recognized University in
the relevant subject (e.g. Zoology, Biology, Crop
Science, Environmental Sciences etc. with a
minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or its
equivalent.
Requirements for Ph.D in Animal &
Environmental Biology:
Candidates for the Ph.D programme must have a
Masters Degree and should normally have an
average of at least 60% or CGPA of 4.0 in the
relevant discipline at the Masters level.
For candidates who obtained their Masters
exclusively by research assessment, admission
will be based on the quality of their thesis.
Candidates may be required to attend a pre-
admission interview session. Final selection of a
candidate shall be based on his/her interview
performance and other criteria.
E. FACULTY OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES &
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
28. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
Requirements for PGD in Physics:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in
Physics from the University of Port Harcourt or
any other recognized University.
Requirements for M.Sc in Physics:
A minimum of Second Class Lower degree with a
CGPA of not less than 3.0 is required for M.Sc
programme of the Department.
M.Sc, PhD in the following areas:
(a) Solid State Electronics
(b) Applied Geophysics
(c) Material Science

Admission Requirements:
The Programmes will be open to candidates who
possess a first degree in Medicine, Basic Medical
Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other relevant
courses allied to Medicine. In addition candidates
must have at least three years post degree
experience and must have completed National
Youth Service (NYSC) programme. Candidates
for admission into the programme will undergo a
selection process and only those who are
successful will be admitted into the programme.
To serve the interest and needs of all Medical,
Health and allied professions who desire the
programme, there is need to simultaneously
mount two separate programmes, one for
medically qualified graduates and another for
non-medically qualified professionals who wish to
practice Public Health.

(a) MBBS or its equivalent, with a minimum of
three years post qualification experience.

in Pharmacognosy of the University of Port
Harcourt or any other recognized Universities,
with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5 points scale. However
candidates with CGPA of 3.0 in their M.Pharm or
M.Sc Programmes in the Pharmacognosy or
related disciplines may be considered for
admission. Such candidates shall be required to
take recommended 700 level/remedial courses
which they must pass at an average score of
60% in the first year.
(ii) Candidates with M.Sc/M.Pharm degree

Biochemistry or Botany of the University of Port

DURATION OF UNIPORT POSTGRADUATE
PROGRAMMES.
A. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE )
The Programme is to run on a Full-Time basis to
last for a minimum of 12 calendar months and
maximum of 24 calendar months and also on a
Part-Time basis for two consecutive long
vacation of eight (8) weeks each sandwich
programme.
B. MBA Programme
Full-Time: Minimum of 24 Calendar Months and
Maximum of 48 Calendar Months
C. MD and MS Programmes
The Programmes will be at least 24 Calendar
Months duration.
D. Ph.D Programmes
Full-Time candidates will be required to spend a
minimum of 24 calendar
months and a maximum of 60 calendar months.
Part-Time candidates will be required to spend a
minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum

E. DBA Programme

UNIPORT POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME –
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.
ALL PGD PROGRAMMES
The minimum requirement for the Postgraduate
Diploma Programmes is a Bachelor’s Degree in
the related disciplines. Candidates must possess
at least a Second Class Honours Degree or Third
Class in the related Discipline. For HND holders a
minimum of Upper Credit is acceptable in the
relevant Departments.
PGDC
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry

in addition a Postgraduate Diploma in Education

PhD PROGRAMMES
Generally, for the PhD Programmes, candidates
should have a Master’s Degree with a minimum
CGPA of 3.5 or 4.0 depending on the department

interview performance. PhD involves course work
and qualifying examination.

EKSU compulsory online screening Exercise Procedure for 2016/2017 Aspirants

Just as the Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB) instructed that there should be no post-UTME exercise anymore,the Ekiti State University (EKSU) in compliance, has fixed Monday 13th June, 2016 and 8th July, 2016 for the compulsory online document capture for the 2016/2017 Aspirants. This applies to candidates who didn't make EKSU Their First choice but Still interested in getting admission there.

The portal would be Open from the Above Date because if you check it now, you would get the Response that 'this facility is closed'. But take note of the Below steps:

INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW 

1. Visit the University PORTAL HERE and click on online Screening of UTME Application.

2. Download Transaction Reference.but before you can Download, you need to provide your JAMB Registration Number, Names and select the bank you wish to pay to.

3. Take the transaction Reference to any branch of the selected bank for payment

4. After payment, visit the University Portal https://eportal.eksu.edu.ng/ to fill in the required details including your result, upload scanned copy of your certificate(s) and 1" x 1" colour passport photograph with red background in JPEG format only (Note use your Transaction Reference as PIN to open the screening forms)

5. Detailed results from at most two of the following examinations SSCE, NECO, NABTEB should be provided.
Candidates awaiting result should supply it within one week of release

6. On completion, preview, confirm, submit and print out Screening Summary Report

ELIGIBILITY


EKSU will admit only candidates who made at least five (5) credit passes in SSCE/NECO/NABTEB in the relevant subjects at not more than two sittings and a minimum of upper credit for Direct Entry candidates. To verify the relevant subjects for your course, visit the online JAMB Brochure

Any candidates who fail to participate in the screening exercise will not be considered for admission into the university.

LASU POST UTME Screening Exercise (CBT) for 2016/2017 Aspirants

The Lagos State University (LASU) has fixed a POST UTME Screening Date for candidates seeking admission via UTME (100 level). These screening exercises are mandatory and shall be in Two Rounds. Registration for the screening runs fromThursday, June 9, 2016 till Friday, June 24, 2016
ELIGIBILITY
A. Candidates who have Lagos State University as their Choice of institution in the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), and have scored a minimum of 190 marks are eligible to participate in the Admission Screening Exercises. In addition, candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
B. ALL Direct Entry candidates who wish to be considered for admission into Lagos State University for the 2016/2017 academic session, who must have obtained Direct Entry Form from JAMB are also eligible and must apply for the screening exercise. However, these applicants are EXEMPTED from the Admission Screening. Online registration is compulsory for them.

C. Candidates of Lagos State Origin, for 100 & 200 levels will be required (if admitted) to prove their claims before the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (lIVC) set up by the Lagos State University.

D. Candidates should note that ONLY the accredited courses listed below are available for the 2016/2017 Academic Session. Therefore, only candidates that have chosen any of the underlisted courses should apply.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

ONLINE PAYMENT
1. Prospective students will visit www.screening.lasu.edu.ng and select MAKE PAYMENT option in the drop down list at the top, to make the required payment of N5,000 for the 2016/2017 LASU Admission Screening Exercise.
The prospective students would be required to submit the following:
a. JAMB Registration Number
b. Surname, First name, Middle name
c. Email Address and telephone number (both must be active and personal to the applicant)

2. Click on PROCEED
3. On the next page, a TRANSACTION ID to be used for PAYMENT would be displayed. The candidate should copy this TRANSACTION ID and proceed for PAYMENT at http://www.quickteller.com/lasu

4. On http://www.quickteller.com/lasu page,
(i) Click on PAY
(ii) Enter your email address, GSM number.
(iii) Also enter the Transaction ID copied in step 3 above
(iv) Proceed to enter details of your ATM card
(v) Click Process payment
(vi) Print your Payment receipt from the screen. A transaction message will be sent to your email and GSM, hence the need to use your personal E-rnail address and GSM number.

SCREENING EXERCISE REGISTRATION
1. After successful payment for LASU 2016/2017 Admission screening exercise, return to screening.lasu.edu.ng and select CONTINUE REGISTRATION option in the drop down list at the top.
2. Prospective candidates should enter the required details (JAMB Registration number, surname and Mode of Entry - UME or DE).
3. Click on PROCEED button to load the Registration Form.
Each applicant is expected to complete the registration form by providing the following information.
· Candidates will be required to upload a scanned copy of their passport size photograph (File Size: Not more than 20KB; File format: JPEG [i.e. ‘jpg’]). Application for change of passport photograph by candidates given provisional admission shall NOT be allowed. This same passport photograph, uploaded by such candidates, will be used on their degree certificates.
· ONLY ONE CHOICE OF COURSE OF STUDY IS ALLOWED
· Carefully study the agreement form. If you agree to the stated terms, click on the 'I agree’ button on the left-hand side of the page.

NOTE
If you do not agree to the stated terms you will not be permitted to go beyond this point. Please read and understand the terms before registering.

· Fill in all required details contained on the online registration form. Confirm THAT DETAILS ARE ACCURATE then click FINISH. To make changes, before you click finish, you may click on the Edit button.
· Candidates must possess five (5) O' Level credits in subjects relevant to their desired course of study at not more than two sittings.
· Credit in English Language is compulsory for admission into all courses in Lagos State University.
· Candidates awaiting the result of NABTEB, WAEC (May/June) and NECO (June/July) 2016, are eligible to apply. Note that any examination taken after July 2016 shall not be accepted.
· Make sure you print your Registration Form/Slip as this serves as your entry ticket into the screening hall.
· Candidate should know that both payment and registration would end two [2] weeks before the advertised date of the Screening Exercises.
· Candidate should visit www.screening.lasu.edu.ng a week before the advertised date of the Screening Tests to check the Sitting Arrangement and reprint the Registration Slip.
Registration for the payment of application fee for the Admission Screening Exercise starts from Thursday, June 9, 2016 and registration closes Friday, June 24, 2016.
Applicants for the LASU 2016/2017 Admission Screening Exercise should NOTE that the screening will be conducted using the newly developed "LASU-COMPUTER BASED TEST (CBT) SOFTWARE".
All applicants are therefore advised to re-visit LASU Admission Screening Exercise portal as from JUNE 27 – JULY 3, 2016 to re-print their Admission Screening Identification Slip in order to know the venue, date and time of the screening.

Applicants who DID NOT choose LASU as the University of Choice in the 2016/2017 UTME are not eligible.

The detailed results of the screening shall be published on LASU website:www.lasu.edu.ng immediately after each day of screening.
